The Perfect Storm

THE STORM ANATOMY

What is seen on the surface is people choosing to please, typically men, for money, provision, survival; however, behind the scenes, hidden in darkness, is The Perfect Storm. This darkness has literally bound the culture, forcing girls and boys to be lost in “the industry”. This tempest is destroying and claiming the souls of people by tens of thousands. This occurs simultaneously in America, but here the dollars are generated in more indirect prostitution -pornography. Now, the culture and the manner by which darkness continues to darken, there are extreme by-products within the culture: 1) boys, sometimes young men, never recover from the physical, emotional, and spiritual torment delivered by a “caring” priest, 2) a girl 13/14 years of age is “purchased” by an older man to be a wife or another one, 3) there is nothing wrong with them having multiple wives or mistresses as long as he can afford it, right? All of society accepts that this is normal but; however, cope by believing the lies: The main thing for me is that it’s ok as long as I don’t know about it; I understand! He’s a man and he has his needs; I don’t want him to, but if he does I just don’t want to know about it!

F
or thousands of years, embedded deep in the culture are five inescapable elements that binds the culture. This "code of survival" exploits the most vulnerable, women and children:

BIRTH - When a child is born they are celebrated, as a blessing, in that around 13 years old, they can begin to bring money into the family. Historically they could have worked in the fields, gotten married. Not quite equal, but still value! Value -the child is a way to help provide in the survival of the family!

POVERTY - In a world where poverty, survival, hunger, and greed monopolize a culture both the moral and human condition are extremely corrupt. In these places, unimaginable and unspeakable exploits occur and for thousands of years men have taken advantage of women and children, inflicting pain and instituting an inescapable culture of demoralizing and degrading them. Essentially, making and treating the lesser as property. This ultimately has developed a culture, shaped by man, for man’s pleasure, at his every whim. It’s not about prospering; it’s about surviving.

RELIGION - In this particular religion when someone comes to Christ, the family is concerned that they have now angered the ancestral spirits. The family will immediately, at least, shun the believing family member if not cast them out for betraying family and community traditions and culture. In the community's mind, the religion is a system of works: merits and demerits. As long as your merits are better than your demerits you’re ok. It’s ok to sin as long as you do more good. The highest merit offerings are to support the temple, family, and elderly. Even though, immorality is a demerit, it’s much lower on the “scale”. So, for someone who thinks in those terms, prostituting yourself, your daughter, or your granddaughter is not so bad as long as the temple, family, and community is the beneficiary. The merits outweigh the demerits.

EDUCATION - The majority of villages outside the towns have little to no opportunity for education beyond the 8th grade. For boys and girls alike, this inadequate education system does not prepare them to get a job, furthermore, finding work among the farms and rice fields is extremely difficult. Where as, most children living in cities have a greater opportunity to go and get a high school education and go to college. A staggering statistic from Laos is that over 50% of female students prostitute themselves to pay for college.

CONVENIENCE - Since the Vietnam War, many Asian countries has become the most popular tourist destinations in the world effected them adversely. The fun-loving attitude of the natives, cheap cost of drugs and alcohol, and the convenience of any sexual proclivities one desires has established a stronghold within the culture. A large volume of the tourism dollars in are attributed to the sex and drug industries. Investigating this further we found that hotel rates, alcohol sales, karaoke bars, restaurants, night markets and much, much more inundates the society with this dark plague. Also, due to horrific abuse within the temples an inconceivable movement among young men to get a sex change grows exponentially. This “Gender Exodus”, is shockingly inexpensive, ringing in at around $1500. These “Lady Boys” are becoming such a part of the culture that there are very few families that have not been affected by it.
